Reach out … Reach out and touch someone

For someone who rarely turns on the tv, I sure do remember tv commercial jingles from my childhood years. It’s funny how an old jingles will pop in my head at any given time and make me laugh. Recently, the old telephone company commercial jingle popped in my head: Reach out, reach out and touch someone, reach out call up and just say hi. It’s funny how the mind works. Maybe I’m just an odd ball. That’s okay. Being unique is not a bad thing.

Back when that old jingle was on tv people only called on land-lines or sent letters. Now there are so many ways to reach out and touch someone’s life. It just takes a few minutes to send a text to let someone know you are thinking of them.

One of my favorite ways to “reach out and touch someone” is by sending snail mail. Old fashion cards sent in the mail always brightens my day. I recently stocked up on some encouragement cards from the dollar store. Now keep in mind, with my low vision I can’t read the cards easily. I get my iPad out and tap on the camera to scan over the cards. When I find some with pictures I like, I will zoom in to see what it says. It’s a bit tedious and I probably look foolish but who cares. Im on a mission to find some cards to brighten someone’s day. (There are some people that have to always appear to have a perfect life with no problems. I’m not one of those. That is definitely an understatement. I can tell you some stories. ) Oops! I got off track there. Back to what I was saying. Last week I sent three encouragement cards out to encourage people and it made my heart so happy when I heard from them. It is so true that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35

It’s encouraging when someone sends a text to say I’m thinking about you or I’m praying for you. Even funny GIFS bring a smile. One of my best friends sends me funny GIFS all the time. We can send them back and forth and it’s hilarious. It’s nice when people don’t take everything so seriously and can have fun.

Other ways to reach out and touch someone are by sharing your faith, scripture, your testimony and prayer. There is a whole lot of hurt in the world and just taking time to reach out can make such a huge difference. I’ve heard others talk about seeing light in someone eyes indicating they have been touched deeply. I personally can’t see well enough to have ever experienced that. However I can see the joy of a genuine smile or someone’s face light up with love. That is one of the most beautiful things to witness. Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭8‬ says, “But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach)”. (NKJV)‬‬. Share it!! Radiate it! Live it!

In a very disconnected busy world, take the time to brighten someone’s day. In a world of such high technology it’s amazing how miscommunication abounds. Whether it’s different languages of language barriers, there are ways around each and every issue. Sure it takes time and consideration. The problem is, most people don’t want to take the time. We are to “Shone for Jesus”. That takes making an effort. It’s a dark divided world where everyone seems offended by everything. Let me encourage you to smile anyway. Shine your light and reach out and touch the lives of others. We may never know on this side of eternity what each little gesture means to someone. Our rewards are in Heaven. Let’s be “Couriers of the Kingdom”. Touching the hearts of others can make such a huge impact. Let’s do this! Let’s make a goal to touch at least one person every single day. I’m in! Are you?
