Something new

From You Version App

Over the last few days I have taken some notes of scripture I’ve read, sensing it was something to blog on. As I sat down a few minutes ago, I said, “Okay Lord what do you want me to say?” Seriously I did! I never want it to be about me, but rather what the Lord is doing around me. I delight in the things God opens my eyes, heart and understanding to receive.

I start each day in prayer and reading Gods Word. Well in all honesty, the first thing I do each morning is put my Advanced Bionics Marvel cochlear implant processor on, then feed our dog Joy. She would stare me down if I didn’t. Once she has had her breakfast, I get lost in prayer and Gods Word. Psalms‬ ‭143‬‬:‭8 says, “Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you”.‭‭(‬ ‭NLT‬‬). This routine sets the course for each day.

I am really enjoying the New Living Translation Bible. This week one of the passages I read was Isaiah 43‬‬:‭18‬-‭ 19, “But forget all that— it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. (‭‭‭‬ ‭‬NLT‬‬) The English Standard Version says it this way. ““Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”Isaiah‬ ‭43‬:‭18-19‬ ‭(ESV‬‬). This is so encouraging! The Lord is telling us He is doing something new. He wants us to forget about the past. Behold, He is doing a new thing. Open your eyes to see what God is up to. He is at work all around us.

Life can seem like a “wasteland” or “ wilderness“. Those words depict a dry season in life where you just push through each day. Every day is just another cycle of the same old thing: Not growing or seeming to go nowhere in life. But in these verses in Isaiah, God is telling us He will make a way in the wilderness. He is bringing forth rivers in the wasteland. God is doing a new thing! Open you eyes!

Forget the past. Be willing to embrace what God is doing around you, in you and through your circumstances. When He said He is making a way through the wilderness, He is leading you. Will you follow Him? He says Hie will provide rivers in the wasteland, that’srefreshing in those hard times. Will you have to go through them? Yes but you won’t go through it alone. The Lord is guiding you and restoring you along the way.

He is always up to something. He is doing a new thing. I will pick up on this again in a few days. I want to meditate on this and ask the Lord to show me more. I’m excited to see what God has in store.

When the music changes

Memories…my last recital.

Have you ever had a time in your life when God enabled you to do something you would not typically attempt? Taking piano lessons as a hearing and visually limited adult was that season for me. I am so thankful for that time period, worshipping on the piano was my therapy. My friend and former teacher taught me chords since I can’t see well enough to read music. I bought a sketch book and she filled it with songs I wanted to learn. I would sit for hours practicing and would play through my whole sketch book.

My husband Ron bought a used piano for my birthday several years ago. It was my happy place to sit and play. I stopped taking lessons when I needed that extra money to buy a Cross link device that worked with my previous cochlear implant processor. On a sad note, that cross link device doesn’t sync with my new processor.

Once I stopped playing the piano was when I really began writing. I published my autobiography Rooted by the Water in May 2021. You can find it on Amazon. Writing became my new form of therapy. Unlike with playing the piano, I no longer have to depend on someone else to write out the music for me. Writing and blogging are ways to glorify God, encourage others and share my heart. I never meant to stop playing the songs I had learned on the piano but my focus was shifted to written expression. In the last few years I only sat down to play a couple of times and was surprised at how much I had forgotten.

A few months ago some friends of our son Joshua moved up from Miami, Florida. One a social media influencer/artist and one an award winning music producer. I kid you not. He sat down at my piano and literally burned up those keys with his talent. Wow! Joshua knew I had not played in a while and asked if the guys could buy it. Every musical instrument meeds to be loved and played. I knew it would be used often in its new home, so I agreed to sell it. The guys came and got it last week. In a way I’m a bit sad because that season is over but I know great music will come forth from the new owners. I still have my electric keyboard, if I can only find what my husband did with the electric cord and sustain pedal.

The last time I saw my piano.

In this new season, I’m thankful for the opportunity to write and blog. Several topics have been swirling in my mind lately but I’ve been too busy to write. One day soon I will get those out in a blog. You can find my blog from the menu on my website http://www.shannonkhinson.com or at http://www.rootedbythewater.blog

Speak Clearly

As I type this blog entry, I’m sitting in our sons old room, preparing for an opportunity to share my testimony tomorrow at a small group. I’m not one for self promotion but I will gladly share what God has done in my life. I have a unique story but only have about 30-40 minutes to share tomorrow. I’ve been praying about this all week and started making some notes this afternoon to guide my thoughts.

This afternoon when my husband Ron got off work I took a break and we had a late lunch with our son Joshua. We went to Bad Daddy Burger since my husband could get a free Veterans Day meal. Afterwards we went to the house where Joshua lives with some friends. It was a fun visit and Joshua and I played some indoor basketball. I stink but by the time we finished I was getting the hang of it. Once back home, I sat back down to continue preparing for tomorrow.

I know my purpose in life is to bring God glory through whatever situation He puts me in. As I sit here preparing, tears are rolling down my cheeks. It’s like a dam breaks and the tears roll down. The thing with most peoples testimony, it’s what God has brought you through. Like you have come through this and it’s because of God bringing you through. My testimony is a continuous test…. test after test after test. Seriously, it’s only because of the goodness of the Lord and the strength He gives me that I endure. His grace is certainly sufficient. His power is poured into my brokenness. It is HIStory, His strength, His everything. I am nothing without Jesus. He is faithful in all things.

My prayer is that He will speak clearly through me to encourage others. Life is not easy but all things are possible through Him. May more doors of opportunity open according to His will. Lord help me to speak clearly and from my heart to bring glory and honor to Your name. Thank you Jesus! Amen!

Costly Oil

Pictures found on Pinterest

Oil? Yes oil! A need for fresh oil has been a repetitive thing in my spirit lately. I’m not referring to the cooking kind, or automotive kind, but rather that of the Holy Spirit.

Last week I met with a group of friends to dig into Gods Word. One friend was intrigued about the ten virgins in Matthew 25. It was an interesting discussion as we looked up scripture related to this topic and life application. Bottom lime is, we need fresh oil to shine for Jesus. Fresh oil or anointing comes from spending time in prayer, worship and reading Gods Word.

This week I’ve been reflecting on this and coming across other bits of information that all go along together. I came across a statement that made me think. Sometimes the answer to my prayer is not what I gain but rather what I lose. When I spend time in prayer I lose anger, anxiety, frustration, dpression and hurt to name a few. Those loses are ultimately gains. Sometimes life is a big mess of frustration. I find myself often praying, “Lord help me”. His answers are not always in the way I’d like, but in one way or another, Jesus shows Himself faithful.

Last week when I met with my neighbor for our Bible study, we were analyzing scriptures about healing. One name of our God is, Jehovah-Rapha, the Lord who heals. As we were praying and sharing about different things, I told her I believe God can heal my optic nerves. I told her of my frustrations with my Optelec magnifier being broke and the parts being so pricey. The part that came in that did not fix the problem, cost $100 just to ship back. I told my friend, “ God needs to either fix my optic nerves or fix my machine! “ Yesterday my husband finally was able to get in touch with a regional person about a used machine. The man has a used one that he will sell us for $800, we just have to meet him some time this week. Thank you Jesus! That is a big answer to prayer. Of course I’d prefer healing but I’m trusting God.

I came across another thing online that really summed up my life and the difficulties I face. The post was on social media by Hannah Williamson, who I do not know. She started by saying, “Your calling is going to crush you.” I’m going to quote her here because it was so spot on true and she said she is sharing because someone else desperately needs it. I was one of those people. I read it over and over and I cried. Life is a big jumbled up frustration and I don’t typically talk about it because God is the only one who can change things. It’s no one’s fault so I push through. Here is the whole post I read on Facebook. I had trouble formatting this so everything below in gold is Hannah Williamsoms words.

Hannah Williamson, October 19

Your calling is going to crush you.

👉🏼 I have posted this before, but someone desperately needs this reminder.

💔If you are called to mend to the brokenhearted, you are going to wrestle with a broken heart.

👦🏻If you are called to heal God’s little ones, you have probably experienced your own share of trauma.

🗣If you are called to prophesy, you’re going to struggle with self-control of the tongue.

🩺If you are called to lay hands, you’re going to deal with spiritually-rooted disease.

🪨If you’re called to preach and teach the gospel, you WILL be sifted for the wisdom that anoints your message.

🪞If you are called to empower, your self-esteem will be attacked- your successes hard fought.

⚔️Your calling will come with spiritual warfare and a sifting – BOTH are necessary for your mantle to be authentic, humble and powerful.

Your crushing won’t be easy because your assignment is not easy – and you can’t minister POWERFULLY what you haven’t walked out. Read that sentence again.

🕊When you’re feeling the weight of it coming down on you, RUN to the father who longs to be your comfort. Let him whisper your true identity over you while resting under the shadow of his wings. Position yourself against his heartbeat. Let him renew your strength and set your eyes forward. No olives, no oil. No grapes, no wine.

Your oil is not cheap my friend.

Hannah’s post has been shared many times and I too shared it with friends. May God bless Hannah for her faithfulness in sharing this encouragement.

As we continue to be pressed on every side by life, crushed and in the refiners fire, don’t lose hope. Press in closer to Jesus as He renews us daily with fresh strength, fresh anointing and everything we need to walk victoriously in this life.

Facebook suspension 😳Really?

The saying goes, “There’s a first time for everything.” That doesn’t mean I wasn’t shocked when I received an e mail today telling me my Facebook was being suspended for violation of its standards. Really Facebook? What might I ask do you dislike about my posts? I share uplifting, positive, inspiring blogs and posts to encourage people. I looked at the so called FB standards. To my knowledge I have not violated anything. Do I promote violence? NO! Do I promote hate speech? NO! Do I promote profanity? NO? Geez… I don’t even gossip on there! On the contrary I speak life and encouragement This is quite perplexing.

The thing that bothers me is that my blogs on WordPress are shared through social media. Many of my followers see my posts through Facebook. I started blogging as a continuation of my story. Life doesn’t stop after publishing my autobiography., “Rooted by the Water“. (You can find it on Amazon) In a sense, it’s actually just the beginning. God continues to teach me so much about His grace and strength through my brokenness. It’s amazing to me when I see posts from other people going through hard times and depression, that I’m given an opportunity to speak life and love into their lives. It’s a privilege to pray for their needs. Just recently someone I met online years ago thanked me for always encouraging others. This past week I had the most views on my blog than I’ve ever had before. What did I write on this last week? I wrote on the 2 year anniversary of my brothers ongoing miracle after having a bone marrow transplant in 2020. I’m honored to be part of his miracle by being his donor.

I know social media gets a bad rap. I get it really, but it allows me to connect with people in ways I don’t ordinarily have. Being hearing impaired and legally blind I am limited in interacting with others. Social media is an opportunity to connect with others and share the love of Jesus.

I have disputed their decision. We will see what happens . But in the meantime they have silenced me. However, I will continue to write and continue to encourage people to not give up. I will Shine on! If you enjoy my blogs help me keep spreading the love of Jesus and the hope He give by sharing my blog with others.
Thank you for journeying with me. God bless you all!

The Treasure of Brokenness

This morning I woke up smiling with a song playing in my heart. I love when that happens. “God is healing someone, making a way for someone, God is up to something right now.” I wasn’t sure the lyrics in my heart were the right lyrics so I looked it up. I wasn’t too far off. I got on our church website to check the music from this past Sunday. You can check it out for yourself at http://www.centralnc.org The lyrics were “He is healing someone, He is saving someone, God is doing something right now.” I’m not sure the name of the song.

I love when the Lord ministers to my heart through music. It’s also kind of amusing because being hearing and visually limited, I get parts of it then make it my own version. I know I’m an “Oddball” but that’s okay. There is nothing wrong with being your unique individual self.

Yesterday a friend and I met for our first week of Bible study. She lives a few houses down from me, so I walked down for our first study together. We are doing Kay Arthur’s Bible study, Lord I Want yo Know You I’ve done the study before on my own but I thought it would be good to do it with a friend. There is nothing as refreshing as studying Gods Word. Hebrews‬ ‭4:12‬ says, “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” (NLT).

This particular Kay Arthur study we are doing is a study of the names of God in the Bible. God reveals His character and attributes about Himself with each name we study.

Yesterday we discussed Elohim, God our Creator. We talked about the purpose for our existence. According to God’s Word, we were created for His glory. See Isaiah‬ ‭43:7‬, “Bring all who claim me as their God, for I have made them for my glory. It was I who created them.’”(NLT‬‬).

One of the beautiful things about doing a Bible study with someone is the opportunity to share. I was open as I shared my frustrations of my hearing and visual issues. In all honesty I told my friend I didn’t think I would be the person I am today if God had not allowed me to be “broken”. God has brought me to a place where I must rely on Him rather than myself. I shared with her about a devotion I came across last week about Gideon. (Judges 7) In a nutshell, God had to reduce Gideon’s men so only God would get the glory in the victory. God reduced Gideon’s men to 300. That’s a fraction from what he started with. They each had a horn and a torch in earthen vessels (clay jars). The 300 broke into groups of three. When the horn sounded they broke their earthen vessel and the light shined through.

Sometimes God has to bring us to brokenness so His light shines through. A place where we can’t rely on our own strengths but have to fully rely on Him. It’s a hard place to be but He surely brings victory and is glorified.

There are treasures found in brokenness. It is when we can’t do it that God pouts His strength into us to enable us to shine on for His glory.

It would be so easy to sink in despair and stay in my comfort zone. A place where I’m not worried about what I can’t or can’t see, can or can’t understand. A side note, I see some of the signs but can’t always see the right hand shape with sign language, so I miss parts of what I should be seeing. When talking and listening to conversations, I understand parts of it with my cochlear implant processor but I also miss many parts. I know in my heart, God did not create me to live in my “comfort zone” where I’m not challenged and used. I was created to bring glory to Him, my Elohim, my Creator. As I soak in Gods Word, He restores me and enables me to rise up again. He is our victory. And just like that song I woke up to that was playing in my heart….“He is healing someone, He is saving someone, He is doing something…right now”! Be Blessed.

Thankfulness

Porch time with Joy

As I sit on the back porch this Memorial Day morning I’m thankful. I’m thankful for the freedom to sit here with my dog Joy and listen to the birds singing. I’m thankful for the brave men and women who serve our country and for those who gave it all for our freedom. I’m thankful for Jesus who renews our hope each day.

Yesterday at church I was reminded to offer up sacrifices of praise to God, even in the waiting and frustrations of life. Lord let me always be mindful to PRAISE YOU anyway!

Lately I have felt so weighed down by life, the world, issues with my “state of the art” cochlear implant processor. As the list of concerns goes on, I can find myself overwhelmed. But yesterday at church as I listened with tears rolling down my face, I was reminded to be thankful in the waiting period even though it seems I’m always in a waiting period. All I can do is pray, praise and trust God to move. Our country, our world, society at large is so broken because it rejects Jesus. I can’t do anything about it but pray and allow God to use me in whatever way he desires to bring about healing in our world. Let’s pause today and be thankful. Let’s pray continually and give thanks because our God is faithful.

If you’d like to read more of my story please check out my autobiography “Rooted by the Water”. It’s a true story of how God has enabled me to overcome great difficulties, not by my own strength but through His strength made perfect in my weaknesses. You can find it on Amazon and many other online retailers such as Barnes & Noble, Books a Million, Target and Walmart.

He never stops working

This evening I went outside after dinner to water my plants. It’s been so hot today and the next several days are supposed to be the same. While I was outside I lost track of time and by the time I came in Wednesday night prayer was almost over. I caught the last few minutes online as the praise team was singing “Way Maker”. I love this song and especially the part that say: ”Even when I don’t see that your working. Even when I don’t feel that your working. You never stop you never stop working. You never stop, you never stop working .” I love that and it’s so true. We can rest in the knowledge that even when we don’t see it or feel it, God is always working to bring about His perfect will.

This is a good reminder for me. I have prayed hard for over 13 years about a certain situation. Every year we endure an appointment with an eye specialist and every year I pray for improvement. As I waited at home to hear how the appointment went, I walked with a friend and we prayed together. My husband finally texted me saying, “Praise God it’s stable! No change and same prescription!”. While this isn’t the exact answer I was hoping for it is still a good report. I do know that God can turn any situation around so we keep believing and keep praying for improvement. God is our creator who can make something out of nothing. He can renew nerves, and bring about optimal eye health. My heart is full of thanksgiving for stability. After my friend left I sat down at the piano to play some worship songs. I played, “You deserve the glory” and “Tremble”. I played them over and over as I waited for the report. Thank you Jesus for answered prayers. This is behind us until next years appointment. One day this will be behind us for good but while we wait for that day we will keep praying and thanking God. We are so thankful for praying family and friends.

If you are praying and have not received the answer yet I encourage you to not give up. God is faithful and always on time. Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Keep the faith and keep hope alive. God is faithful always.
