I am writing…. I’ve actually meant to blog earlier this week but I’m just getting around to it. Last Sunday, Pastor asked everyone to read 2 Peter this week. It’s only three chapters so he said read one each day then do it again. The more we mediate on God’s Word, the more we grow in His truth. The first several verses of 2 Peter are well worth sharing here. ~ “I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have. This faith was given to you because of the justice and fairness of Jesus Christ, our God and Savior. May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord. By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 1:1-8 (NLT)(emphasis mine)
Whew! What a treasure of wisdom that is! In this world that we live in, with sinful ways embraced by society and pretty much shoved in our faces daily, it is VITAL to stay in PRAYER and THE WORD OF GOD!!!
The more we study God’s Word and stay in prayer, the more we will grow in wisdom, putting down strong roots. I love the concept of “roots”. I even named my memoir “Rooted by the Water”. Why? Because Jesus is the “living water”. Check out Jeremiah 17:8,“They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.(NLT) (emphasis mine) #goals! That’s my desire! I want my “roots” to grow down deep into the “living water” Jesus. Having such roots keeps you stable in a world and culture that’s constantly shifting in the wrong areas.
We need a shift back to Jesus, His Word and a deep relationship with Him, where we are constantly praying and seeking His face for anything and everything. That folks is where we need to be. If you aren’t there, it’s time to change course so that you can GROW more and more and reflect Jesus more and more. I’ll stop here. This is not only a reminder for you but for me as well. We must keep our focus on Jesus and His True Word. Ask for wisdom and discernment to detect falsehood because it abounds. Be on your guard always, testing the spirits and walking in God’s truth. He will lead us in victory. Stay faithful! You are loved!
